The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) and the Winnipeg Elite Basketball League (WEBL) announced today a partnership to provide a new elite league to all boys and girls teams ages 12-17 in the greater Winnipeg area beginning this spring. This program will provide a structured league for teams to develop and compete against other high level teams. This program replaces the 'District' program run by the WMBA the past 8 years. The fundamental difference between the old District program and this new one is that teams can be created regardless of where an athlete lives
(open-boundary). The WMBA will still offer its community club league to boys and girls ages 6-18 plus a senior men's (ages 18-29) and women's league (ages 18+) this spring.
The new league, currently named 'Rising Stars', will begin this April and run through to mid-June. The league will also offer a fall and spring league component moving forward.

Both the WMBA and WEBL were pursuing a similar approach to offer a structured league to the expanding number of 'club' teams coming on the basketball scene in Manitoba. Basketball Manitoba applauds this partnership and feels in will enhance the development of our high level athletes and coaches in Manitoba!
There is an informational meeting open to all interested teams being held on...
