The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association is pleased to announce that Gord Friesen has been named the 2006-07 recipient of the WMBA Bruce Russell Coach of the Year Award. Gord has been coaching in the WMBA since 2004 out of the River Heights Community Centre. In all, he has coached 4 different teams in the league. This past winter, Gord was the coach of the 11 year old boys team out of River Heights Community Centre. Gord also coaches with the Junior Bisons program. He played high school volleyball and basketball in Gretna, Manitoba and went on to play university volleyball at the University of Winnipeg. It was Gord’s son’s decision to join the WMBA that brought him to basketball in a coaching capacity.
