FOUNDING MEMBERS WERE RECOGNIZED AT THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The WMBA Board of Directors gratefully recognized the WMBA founding
members during our 10th anniversary celebration. Thank you for getting

COACH OF THE YEAR HONORS PRESENTED TO GORD FRIESEN The 2006-2007 WMBA Bruce Russell Memorial Coach of the Year Award was formally presented to Gord Friesen of River Heights. This past winter season, Gord coaches the River Heights 11 Boys #1 team. Special thanks to Bruce's two daughters and his wife Liza Russell who were on hand to present the award to Gord! |
The
award recognizes a coach who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to
Fair Play, shows exemplary commitment to the team, serves as a model
for other coaches to emulate and demonstrates concern for players
outside the game. The Bruce Russell Memorial Coaches Award has been
established by the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association to respect
Bruce Russell's outstanding commitment to his role as a basketball
coach and enthusiasm for the philosophy of the league. Bruce passed
away as a result of cancer in April 2001 after his second season of
coaching in the WMBA.

WMBA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
At
the AGM, the WMBA Foundation announced the two recipients of the fourth
annual WMBA Scholarship to Alexa Amos and Trevor Grafton in the amount
of $500.
Alexa and Trevor have been very actively involved in the WMBA. Congratulations to Alexa and Trevor!

FIVE YEAR CONVENOR SERVICE AWARD PRESENTED
The WMBA recognized two of its veteran Club Convenors at the AGM on
Tuesday night. Two particular convenors who have given 5 years service
to convening the WMBA program at their clubs were honoured for their
long-time commitment and dedication to the program.
