The MHSAA has announced details on the Garett Lee Sidor Memorial
Basketball Scholarship. Garett, a student at Windsor
Park Collegiate was an outstanding young student athlete. His life
tragically ended on May 13, 2007. Garett participated in many sports,
including hockey, volleyball and basketball. He was selected as an
All-Star in the 2007 Provincial “AAA” Basketball Championships which
his Windsor Park Royals captured. He was also named to the All Manitoba
Team. Garett’s friends and Family have set a scholarship to be awarded
to a male “AAA” high school basketball player who displays
sportsmanship, leadership and outstanding ability. A scholarship in the
amount of $500.00 will be awarded annually. Nominations will be taken
by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association and scholarship funds
will be administered through the Garett Lee Sidor Scholarship Fund at
the Winnipeg Foundation. Contributions to this fund may be made by

CRITERIA
- “AAA” Basketball male player displaying strong leadership and team play
- Strong scholastic standing – minimum 80% average (please include an official transcript)
- Respected by teammates and coaches
- Proceeding to a post secondary education
- Hard working, diligent approach to the game
Funds will be directed to the educational institute to be applied to tuition or residency.
All nomination forms should be received by the MHSAA office (200 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB,.R3C 4M2) on or before Thursday April 9, 2009. Please send two (2) copies of this application and all supporting documents.
