Providence Coaching Staff in the position of Head Coach for Men’s
Basketball. The Head Coach will be responsible for leading our men’s
varsity basketball program to help achieve our mission of providing
student-athletes with an environment that fosters academic success,
Christ-centered personal growth, and athletic excellence. This position
offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable coaching experience at the
college level by joining one of Manitoba’s leading college athletic
programs as we currently compete in the MCAC and NCCAA. Providence

Job Description
The Head Coach for Providence Men’s Basketball will report to the Director of Athletics and will work closely with the Providence Athletics Department team.
Responsibilities
The Head Coach will be responsible for following the vision set by the Providence Athletics Department, recruiting a full roster, developing players with a focus on the development of superior fundamental skills and technique, leadership skills, mental preparation, physical strength, and tactical theory. There will need to be a commitment to following the Community Life Standards as set out by Providence College during your time of employment at Providence College. The Coach will also be responsible for promoting and maintaining the Providence Athletic Department’s culture of hard work, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Ensuring adherence to all league requirements, deadlines, and eligibility
- Ensuring all athletes understand all academic requirements and adhere to them
- Run team and individual player practices
- Implement and run recruiting initiatives as set out by the athletic department
- Commitment to recruiting a full roster
- Record and submit all statistical information to the MCAC and NCCAA
- Be available for all scheduled games, road trips, practices, and Athletic Department meetings and events
- Schedule practice times that ensure students can attend all of their academic classes
- Ensure a positive and safe practice and game environment that consistently pushes athletes to improve
- Nominate any athletes who should be considered for All-American, All-Canadian, All-Conference, or player of the week/month nominations
Qualifications:
- Proven background in player and skill development.
- Ability to understand, correct, and effectively teach proper skills and techniques both at the foundational and college levels.
- Experience with playing at a college or university level.
- Experience coaching in high school or college environments.
- Demonstrate a results oriented, motivational leadership style and sets challenging but achievable personal and player development objectives.
- Commitment to pursue coaching certification levels.
- Ability to effectively influence others.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- University degree or equivalent.
- Demonstrate high energy and ability to work in a fun, fast paced and demanding college athletics environment.
- Willing to make regular trips to Providence College for all the requirements of the position, along with the flexibility to be available for the demanding schedule of a college level team.
Compensation
Providence Athletics offers a competitive honorarium.
