“We are looking forward to holding these tryout
sessions to further assess athletes from across the country who are eligible
for this year’s Junior Women’s National Team program, said Denise Dignard,
Manager of Women’s Elite Performance for Canada Basketball. “This is a part of our overall selection
process that will determine which athletes will represent Canada at the
2009 FIBA U19 World Championships for Women.”
The JWNT ‘open tryout’ session will take place on
June 5th from 6:00-9:00pm at Bishop
Tonnos Catholic
Secondary School located at 100 Panabaker Drive, Ancaster, ON, L9G 5E3
Athletes interested in participating in the 2009 JWNT
open tryout session must pre-register by faxing a signed copy of a completed
player profile registration and a completed and signed insurance form to Canada
Basketball at 416-614-9570. The deadline to register is Tuesday, June 2nd,
2009 (forms available online at http://www.basketball.ca/en/hm/inside.php?sid=1&id=3036).
There will be up to a maximum of seven (7) athletes from
the 2009 JWNT ‘open tryout’ who may be invited to participate in some or all of
the five 2009 JWNT ‘tryout by invitation’ sessions which will take place from
June 6-8th as outlined below:

All athletes are responsible for their own expenses to
attend and participate in the open tryouts and tryouts by invitation
session. Those athletes from out of town
wishing to receive information about university residence accommodations at McMaster University, please contact Jen Elliot at
jelliott@basketball.ca
After each of the ‘tryout by invitation’ sessions,
decisions will be made on whether an athlete will continue to the next
session. Therefore athletes should be
prepared to make amendments to travel and accommodation arrangements as
decisions are delivered.
Athletes
selected to the Junior National Team will represent Canada
at the FIBA U19 World Championships for Women from July 23 to August 2, 2009 in
Bangkok, Thailand. The full 2009 JWNT program will include
training camp which will begin on July 9th and international
competition for which return will be August 4th.
