KAMLOOPS, BC - Both of Manitoba's 15U Provincial Teams fared very well at last week's National Championships held in Kamloops, BC. The girls program, coached by Suki Chhoeun and Kelli Sinnock ended with a strong 4-2 overall record and a 4th place finish and the male program, under the leadership of Scott Kirkpatrick and Spiros Kavadas also posted an overall 4-2 record and a 5th place finish. The annual event features the top 200 15U players from across Canada and will be staged in Manitoba in August 2010 and 2011. Individually, the Manitoba Girls team was recognized with a First Team All-Star Award in Taneesha Greaves. On the boys front, Kristjan Lamont was recognized as a Second Team All-Star. Ontario girl’s team defeated BC Blue 43-36 to capture its 5th
consecutive U15 National Championship. Onario’s boy’s team also met BC
Blue in the finals and came away with a dominating 87-60 victory to
secure the championship title for the second year in a row.
Alberta boys and girls rounded out the awards by capturing the
bronze medals at the National Championships. Alberta boys defeated
Saskatchewan 64-51 to secure their spot on the podium, while the
Alberta girls team came away with a 66-52 win over Manitoba.
“It’s been great partnering with Canada Basketball to host this
tournament for the second year in a row” said Ken Olynyk, Tournament
Chair. “It was wonderful seeing some of the best young players in
Canada playing here in Kamloops.”
