Former star players of the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association)
will headline an event to be held at the Duckworth Centre, University
of Winnipeg on October 30, 2009. Alvin Patrimonio, Benjie Paras,
Jerry Codinera, Vergel Meneses, Gerry Esplana, Jun Limpot, Ed
Cordero, Noli Locsin, Joey Santa Maria, Bonnel Balingit and legends
Mon Fernandez and Atoy Co with the San Beda College head coach
Bonnie Garcia will play against a surprise team touted as Winnipeg’s
Best. Try-outs and selection of this team is ongoing. Interested
local players are invited to sign up.
The ex-PBA All Star event is a production venture of Macy’s
Distribution with Ang Peryodiko as exclusive media partner. The
project’s objective is to promote the importance and impact
of sports in developing the youth and harnessing their full potential.
The event will be an exciting afternoon affair to be kicked off
at 2 PM with a starting game by two of the best teams in Winnipeg.
The local players will demonstrate their skills in the game for
possible drafting by team coaches and scouts from the Philippines.
All interested basketball groups are invited to register their
teams and take part in some fun and friendly competition to the
afternoon’s main event.
