Jeff LapingBasketball Manitoba is pleased to share the news that Jeff Laping of St. Paul's High School has been named the 2009-10 Coaching Manitoba School Coach of the Year!  The Peter Dick Award was presented to Jeff on April 11 at the Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards along with a number of other awards to the coaching community.  Jeff coached St. Paul's to the AAAA provincial title game last month and is one of basketball's most active coaches in Manitoba.  Jeff is also the current President of the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association and has coached in the Manitoba Provincial Team program and in Canada Basketball's Centre for Performance program for a number of years.  The award recognizes a school based coach in Manitoba across all sports their commitment to an athlete's all-round development, professional development as a coach and their team accomplishments.  A finalist for the same award was Stephen Tackie of Sturgeon Heights Collegiate.  This award recognizes coaches ALL sports in Manitoba, not just basketball.  Kirby Schepp was also recognized for his involvement on the international stage with the National Cadet team and Keith Warner of Roblin Manitoba for his 25 years of service as a basketball coach.  For more on the awards and Jeff Laping...



     



Jeff was born and continues to live in Winnipeg
with his wife and three children.



Jeff graduated from St. Paul’s High School in the class of 1989.   He
attended the University of Manitoba earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1993
and a bachelor of Education in 1995.   He began working at St. Paul’s
High School as a teacher of English Language Arts in January 1999.   He
has been involved in the basketball program at St. Paul’s since
arriving back at the school as a student teacher in 1995.   He coached
the JV boys team for three seasons and has coached the Varsity boys
since 2000.  



Jeff has been involved with Basketball Manitoba in a number of
capacities since 2002.   He was an assistant with the male 17U team in
2002 and 2003 and again in 2008 and 2009; he coached the male 16U team in 2004 and in 2008, and was manager of
the 2005 male Canada Games team.   Jeff has worked with the Centre for
performance since 2004 as a coach, and has worked with the Manitoba
Basketball Coaches Association since 2003, serving as its President
since
2005.
