Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the NCCP Introduction to Competition clinic being held Jan. 22-23 in Russell, Manitoba. Coaches in the Competition stream usually
have previous coaching experience or are former athletes
in the sport. They tend to work with athletes over the
long term to improve performance, often in preparation
for provincial, national, and international competitions.
The Competition stream has three coaching contexts:
Introduction, Development, and High performance. Geared for those coaching athletes age 9-12.
The course combines the
sport specific teachings of basketball with the theory of coaching.   For details on the news system and to register...

This course serves as a way to bring a fresh look at how we want to
teach and play basketball in our province to be able to compete across
the country and to encourage athletes to stay involved long past their
competitive years.

The three teaching modules consist of Making Ethical Decisions,
Practice Planning, and on-court modified games.  These will allow
coaches to develop a teaching style that fits within the philosophy of
Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). Taught by Darcy Kowalchuk,
Learning Facilitator of Manitoba, this course will be a great way to get prepared
for the upcoming season and an opportunity for young coaches to better
themselves as basketball educators!

Coaches who complete this course will receive their NCCP status as a 'Trained Introduction to Competition Coach'.
