SUBWAY RURAL JUNIOR VARSITY PROVINCIAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Major Pratt School in Russell and Steinbach Christian are hosting the girls and boys championships respectively on March 11 & 12. This is an eight-team girls and boys championship. This championship is for all rural high schools outside of Winnipeg and Brandon. Last year, Sanford downed Warren by a score of 50-40 for the girl’s title, and the Boy’s title went to Margaret Barbour (The Pas) who outscored MacGregor 74-47.
SUBWAY URBAN JUNIOR VARSITY PROVINCIAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
It will be held in Winnipeg on March 10, 11, 12 & 15 with the girls playing at Garden City Collegiate and the boys at Maples Collegiate. Twelve boys teams and twelve girls teams will be participating. The girl’s championship was taken last year by Fort Richmond who beat Vincent Massey (Wpg) 68-50. Top spot in the boys, went to Kelvin who defeated Sturgeon Heights 53-49. This championship is for Winnipeg and Brandon high schools. The Championship final will be played on Tuesday, March 15 at University of Winnipeg Duckworth Center.
MILK "A" PROVINCIAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
This provincial is for any rural school with less than 125 students and will be held in Wawanesa and Gladstone on March 18 & 19. Eight girls teams will travel to Wawanesa and eight boys teams will visit Gladstone. Last year's girl title went to the Treherne Tigers who defeated the Grandview Spartans by a score of 69-35. The boy’s title went to Glenboro who defeated Rosenort 89-70.

This category features rural schools with populations between 125 and 300 students, including Winnipeg schools with populations of less than 100 students. This is a ten-team championship with the girls in Morris and the boys in Dominion City on March 17-19. In girl’s action last year, Boissevain edged out Souris 53-50, and in the boys it was Ste. Anne outscoring Killarney by a score of 77-60.

On March 17-9, eight boys and eight girls teams will be vying for this year’s title at the Westgate and St. John’s Ravenscourt gyms in Winnipeg. Last year's boy’s championship went to Westgate who beat the St. John’s Ravenscourt 75-47. In girl’s action, U of W Collegiate defeated St. Norbert by a score of 68-61.

Includes all Winnipeg and Brandon schools with a population over 400 students plus Lord Selkirk, Crocus Plains, Stonewall, Winkler and Steinbach. Last year, the Vincent Massey Trojans (Wpg) girls outlasted Oak Park by a 63-62 score, while the Oak Park boys triumphed over St. Paul’s 66-56, for the boy’s title. The Final four will be at the U of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre starting each night at 6:00 pm on March 17 & 18 for the semi-finals. The final will be played on Monday, March 21 starting with the girls at 6:00 pm. Sisler will host the boys Regional Playdowns and Crocus Plains will host the girls on March 11 & 12. Dairy Farmers of Manitoba is the major sponsor for this championship.
