Athletes
Angie Straub (Johnson) (Basketball)
Angie was a John Taylor Collegiate Basketballplayer who in the early 70’s dominated the game as a star for the University of Winnipeg. She played in the 1972 World University Games in Moscow, the 1972 WorldChampionships in Columbia, the 1975 Pan Am Games in Mexico City and 1976 Olympics in Montreal. She was also part of a contingent of Canadian Athletes to compete in China.Angie also had the athletic ability to be invited to play Volleyball at the National level as well.
Martin Riley (Sisler High School Basketball)
Martin was the first player to gain a spoton the Canadian National Team right out of high school, and represented Canada in the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He also led the University of Manitoba Bisons to the NationalChampionship in 1976, and was recognized as the country’s top player. He was selected as Manitoba’s Athlete of the Year in 1976, and to the CIS All Canadian Team in 1977 and1978. He continued on playing Senior Men’s Basketball with Nicolett Inn and captured Canadian Senior Men’s Canadian Team Men’s Title with them in 1979 and 1980. Martin later coached High School Basketball at Churchill, Dakota Collegiate, and Miles Macdonell.

Dale Bradshaw - Basketball (Garden City, Dakota Collegiate)
The name Dale Bradshaw is associated with High School Basketball in the Province. The “Dean” as he is commonly referred to, spent 20 years coaching and has mentored 80 – 100 former players to become coaches. His teams made it to the Provincial Championships seventeen times,winning five of those Championships. He has also gone to coach the Provincial Jr. Men’s Team and won a gold medal at the 1979 Western Canada Games and Bronze at the 1982 and 1983 Jr. National Championships. His teams at Dakota were always known for their ntensity and knowledge of the game. He was a member of the MHSAA seeding committee and top ten ranking committee.

Sisler Spartans 1973
The 1973 edition of the Spartans went undefeated all year. Led by Coach Gary Grubert, the Spartans participated in numerous tournaments both in Province and out and advanced to the Provincials with an undefeated record. The Spartans featured many players who went on to outstanding University careers, including Martin Riley (U of M) who captained the Canadian Olympic Team, Bob Magel (U of W) and Dan Kinaschuk (U of W), Ben Szymkow (BU), Randy Prokopanko (U of M), Les Sikora (U of W). No team has gone undefeated since and many of the players have gone on to teach and coach in Winnipeg and other areas.
