At the Sport Manitoba Sport for Life Gala held on Thursday April 28 at the CanadInn Club Regent Hotel, Alex Warburton of Sanford Collegiate was named the Great West-Life Youth Volunteer of the Year. Alex has volunteered her time to contribute to all aspects of the high school sport delivery system. A Grade 12 student at Sanford Collegiate and a member of the Manitoba Provincial Basketball team, she has devoted her time to being the Rural Manitoba Student Representative on the MHSAA Board of Directors for the past two years. Working with principals, superintendents, and government officials, she has contributed to rule making concerning eligibility, governance, discipline, and tournament formats. She has set a positive example for her fellow teammates and high school athletes around Manitoba. Alex was also recently named the Carl Ridd Award recipient and the AAA Girls Player of the Year.
