It is with great sadness that Basketball Manitoba shares the news of the passing of Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame Member (Class of '07) Harvey Lipkin. Harvey died at his San Antonio home on September 28 after a short illness. Born in Winnipeg Canada, Harvey moved to Fargo, North Dakota in 1972. In 1979 he moved with his family to Ranger, Texas where he spent the next 24 years. A burial took place on October 3 in Winnipeg. He was the founder and owner of Harv-Al Athletic Manufacturing along with business partner Al Rimer which made sports uniforms. As owners of Harv-Al Sportswear, Harvey Lipkin and and Al Rimer were staunch supporters and sponsors of all levels of amateur basketball throughout Manitoba, including the Manitoba Amateur Basketball Association. Harv-Al supported the birth of the Manitoba Coaches Association by funding its annual dinner for a number of years, and providing trophies for the Mike Spack and Carl Ridd Awards. The company also worked with high schools and helped junior and senior leagues, particularly with team travel. Harvey was directly involved by serving over the years as manager for some of the top junior and senior teams. They even organized a “Little Dribblers” program for young boys and girls. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lipkin family. MBHOF Induction Information...
