Basketball Manitoba is proud to present the first clinic in the new Coaches Clinic Series. This special series of clinics will focus on different aspects of coaching the game and be presented by some of the most experienced and successful coaches in Manitoba. The inaugural clinic, “Effective Full-Court Offense Including Primary and Secondary Breaks with Emphasis on Game and Talent Adjustments”. This special clinic will be led by Hall of Fame coach Dale Bradshaw, Bryan Kornberger, Minich Nowrang, and Doug McGregor. The clinic is open to all basketball coaches and will be held January 5th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Maples Collegiate located at 1330 Jefferson Avenue in Winnipeg. Dale Bradshaw
Dale Bradshaw is an icon on the Manitoba basketball scene having coached and consulted for 50 years. During his 20 year run as a varsity boy’s high school coach he lead his team to 17 provincial tournaments, 7 championship games, and 5 provincial championships. Dale also served at a Provincial Team coach for 15 years and won 10 medals for the province on Manitoba. Dale was the Canadian National Team apprentice coach for 3 summers and an active NCCP Level 1, 2, & 3 certified technical and theory instructor. Dale Bradshaw is a member of four Halls of Fame; St. Vital School Division (1997), Basketball Manitoba (1998), Manitoba Sports (2001), and the Manitoba High School Athletic Association (2011).
Bryan Kornberger
Bryan Kornberger has coached the Glenlawn varsity girls for the past 29 years leading them to 7 provincial championships (1989, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006). Bryan also spent the summers coaching the Basketball Manitoba Provincial teams for 10 seasons winning the National Junior Championship in 1991 and adding 3 bronze medals in 1986, 1990, and 1997.He also coached the Winnipeg Selects girls club team from 2002-03 and he coached boys basketball at Darwin elementary school, Hastings junior high school, and Dakota Collegiate from 1976 to 1983.
Minich Nowrang
Coach Nowrang has coached a wide variety of levels in his 27 year coaching career. He lead the varsity boy’s at Glenlawn Collegiate to 3 final fours and a Provincial Championship during a six year run that produced nine university players. Over this time he also coached the Manitoba Provincial Teams in 2002 winning a bronze at Nationals and 2003 leading them to a Silver medal in the Western Canada Games. Coach Nowrang was selected Interim Head Coach for the University of Manitoba Men’s program during the 2005/06 season and served as an assistant coach with both the University of Manitoba Bison men’s and women’s programs. After coaching many “grassroots” basketball programs, Coach Nowrang formed the club program currently known as EDGE Basketball Club, which has quickly grown into one of the elite girl’s youth programs in the city. During his playing career he was selected to the MBCA All Manitoba Team (1987), the Basketball Manitoba Provincial Team (1985-1988), and was a member of the University of Manitoba Bison men’s team (1987-1988).
Doug McGregor
Doug McGregor has 28 years of coaching experience at various levels assisting programs from the WMBA to the University of Winnipeg. He has 7 other provincial championships at 4 different levels, including 3 - AAAA Varsity Girls at Glenlawn and Vincent Massey. Doug has coached on 8 provincial teams including the 1991 gold medal champion U19 girls’ team. Some of the stops along his coaching career include; 5 years as an assistant coach for the University of Winnipeg Wesmen women’s program, Westgate girls teams, Stanley Knowles, WMBA, Todd McCulloch Hoops School, and the Steve Nash youth league. Doug is also a NCCP Level 1 clinician.
