The Brandon Bobcat men's basketball team has announced that it will be hosting a one-day basketball camp for youth on Sunday December 18 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The “Holiday Hoops Camp” will be for kids in grades 1-8 and focus on introducing the fundamentals of basketball to beginners. The cost of the camp is free, but participants are encouraged to make a donation of either cash or an unused toy. Cash donations will go to the memorial fund set up in the memory of Dayanny Nunez Bonilla, while donations of toys will go the Brandon Christmas Cheer registry. For more information or to register...
“Our athletes have come from all over North America, and at some point been greatly influenced by a coach, mentor or volunteer that has given their time,” says head coach Gil Cheung. “This is a great opportunity for us to give back while promoting basketball and fitness, and at the same time it is for a good cause and at a great time of the year.”
Participants are asked to bring unused toys for the Brandon Christmas Cheer Registry. Monetary donations will also be accepted and go to the memorial fund set up for Dayanny Nunez Bonilla.
The primary focus of this session is to introduce the fundamentals of the game and to teach proper footwork, shooting mechanics, ball-handling, passing and spacing. The event promises to be fun as well as develop basketball skills in both an individual and team setting. Players will be introduced to basic agility and core training activities.
The clinic will be run by coach Cheung and members of the Bobcats basketball team. All participants will take home great Bobcat prizes, as well as prizes from Booster Juice, Domino’s Pizza, and Jiffy Food and Video.
