Basketball Manitoba is very pleased to announce its Provincial Team Program coaching line up for the summers of 2012 and 2013, including the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In 2012, the program will feature a total of 6 teams including the male & female 17U and 15U teams. The head coaches of the 4 programs are Stephen Tackie of Winnipeg at the 17 Male level, Don Thomson of Brandon at the 17U Female level, Jon Lundgren of Winnipeg at the 15U Male level and Sarah Lundgren at the 15U Female level. Tryouts for the 17U & 15U teams will take place on April 6-8, 2012 at the University of Winnipeg with the programs representing Manitoba at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Quebec for male teams and New Brunswick for females. The 16U program will be connected to the Manitoba Games program with those coaches being announced later in the winter and those provincial teams representing Manitoba at the first ever Western Canadian Cadet Championships in Edmonton in August. Each spring, Basketball Manitoba coordinates provincial teams at the 17U and 15U age
categories for both male and female athletes. All ages are based on December 31 of the year the tryouts occur.
The
teams will be selected from open tryouts April 6-8, 2012 at the University of Winnipeg and any
Manitoba resident who is in one defined age categories is eligible
and welcome to tryout. Once the teams are chosen, they train and compete
together throughout the spring and summer and participate in their respective National Basketball Championships in August 2012 and 2013.
