Basketball Manitoba is excited to announce a new partnership with Coaching Manitoba to create the 'ActiveStart Basketball' program designed for 4 and 5 year olds. The co-ed program follows Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles while introducing age appropriate fundamental movement and basic basketball skills. Young children need to be introduced to play that incorporates a variety of body movements and an early, active start enhances physical and cognitive development. The program will lead the children in a variety of games and exercises designed with a purpose; to develop physical literacy and introduce them to the sport of basketball while having FUN! This special program will be led by Sheldon Reynolds, Coaching Education Coordinator for Coaching Manitoba and Dan Becker, High Performance Coach for Basketball Manitoba. The program will run every Tuesday, from 10:00am to 11:00am for 8 weeks starting January 24 and wraps up on March 13, 2012. The ActiveStart Basketball program will be run out of the new Lindenwoods Community Center gym at 414 Lindenwood Drive West and registration is $65.00 per child. Space is limited to the first 20 participants. The program is expected to expand later in the year to other locations to be determined. To register now for this special session...
