With new faces and new teams shaking up the league in 2011-12, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference is anticipating what should be the most competitive Basketball Final 4’s in some time. Now that the regular season is nearly wrapped, the seedings and schedule have been announced for the Final 4’s. They are to take place at Red River College’s Notre Dame Campus in the North Gym on Friday, Mar. 2 and Saturday, Mar. 3. On the women’s side, thanks to a late-season comeback win against the #2 Red River Rebels, the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen will enter as the #1 seed for the second straight year. They will take on #4 Providence University College in the semifinals, while the Rebels will look to avoid being upset by the #3 Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers. On the men’s side, thanks to injury and a short roster, the three-time defending champion Red River Rebels will be entering the Final 4’s as the #3 seed. They will look to upset the #2-ranked University of Winnipeg College Wesmen. The College Wesmen beat the Rebels in the season series, 3-1.
Also, thanks to the return of CIS veteran Nick Miller and a huge year in the post from Wyatt Anders, the #1 CMU Blazers will come in on an 11-game winning streak and look to begin their title run against #4 Providence in the semifinals. Full details on the Final Four are at...
