The Basketball Manitoba Women's Summer League got under way this week with four first round match-ups.
Game 1 saw the University of Winnipeg defeat the University of Winnipeg College 72-66. Alyssa Grant led the victors with 26 points on the night while Kenesha Giles scored 18 for the College team.
Game 2 had the Red River Rebels matched up against the Canadian Mennonite University. The Rebels ran away with the game 92-43. Brit and Naesha led the RRC side with 21 and 17 points respectively while CMU got 13 points from Hannah Prowse.
Game 3 saw the Team Manitoba 17U girls come away with a hard fought victory over the All Stars 2 squad, 56-48. Montana Kinzel led all scorers with 15 points with Emily Potter adding 13. Krystal Sehouten led the way for the All Stars 2 with 14 points.
Game 4 wrapped up the week with early season favorite to win the league championship, All Stars 1 defeating the University of Manitoba 85-67. JoAnne Smalls and Michelle Foreman led the All Stars with 21 and 14 points respectively, while Robyn and Brittney Koop each scored 21 for the Bisons.
It was an exciting first week in the league, the next round of games take place at the University of Manitoba next week Wednesday and Thursday. Come out and support the 17U Provincial Team as they take on the powerful All Stars 1 at 7:00pm on Wednesday in a battle of young legs vs experience!
