Sport Manitoba today announced members of the Mission Staff selected to Team Manitoba for the 2013 Canada Summer Games that will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec. “The Mission Staff team plays an integral role in the overall organization, preparation and success of Team Manitoba in interprovincial games,” said Chef de Mission Ted Bigelow. “Our athletes, coaches and teams will once again have the benefit of being supported by volunteers and professionals with an impressive set of skills from a wide cross section of the sport community as they ramp up for the Games.” Joining the basketball teams will be Jen How for the female team and Rob Holmes for the male program.
Mission staff will spend the next 15 months working with individual teams and in other support roles to help Team Manitoba’s 433 athletes, coaches and managers implement their plans for the 2013 Canada Summer Games. A link between individual teams and the larger Team Manitoba, Mission Staff will help ensure best possible conditions that will enable all participants to attain their performance objectives and a positive sport and personal Games experience.

Sherbrooke will play host to the 2013 Canada Summer Games from August 2 to 17, 2013. The 2013 Canada Summer Games will be the largest multi-sport event to ever be held in the city with over 4200 athletes and 850 coaches from each province and territory and a total of more than 12,500 participants that also includes major officials, artists, mission staff, medical personnel, media, special guests and observers.
Held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games are a key event in the development of Canada’s young athletes. Canada Games athletes are Canada’s next generation national, international and Olympic champions.
Sport Manitoba is a not for profit organization and the lead planning, programming and funding agency for the development of amateur sport in Manitoba. Located in the Sport for Life Centre, Sport Manitoba partners with over 100 organizations to deliver sport in our province and is responsible for programs including the Power Smart Manitoba Games, Coaching Manitoba, Team Manitoba, Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, and KidSport. Services provided include the Sport Medicine Centre, Sport Performance Centre, and Sport Resource Centre.
