FREDERICTON, NB – 240 of Canada’s most talented young female basketball prospects will hit the hardwood from August 6 – August 11 in Fredericton, NB for the 2012 Canada Basketball National Championships. The two tournaments bring together the top female athletes from 10 provinces, ages 15-and-under and 17-and-under, for a weeklong competition to determine the best 15U and 17U squads in the country.
The Canada Basketball National Championships have historically been a proving ground for future Canadian basketball stars.
This year, the women’s 15U/17U tournament takes place at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB.
"Basketball New Brunswick is really excited to be hosting the women's event in Fredericton at the brand new UNB Currie Center,” said Executive Director of Basketball New Brunswick, Carolyn Peppin. “The building has only been open for a year and will no doubt go beyond the participant's expectations. The local organizing committee has been working on the event for a year and are committed to providing an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone involved."
Peppin added, “We're also looking forward to having our provincial teams play on a home court in front of their families and hometown fans."
This year, both Ontario 15U and 17U women’s teams will be looking to defend their titles. Ontario’s 15U team will be looking to make it their eighth consecutive year winning the title, while the Ontario 17U women’s team will be looking to make it back-to-back championships.
