Winnipeg was treated to a tremendous two days of basketball treats courtesy of NBA Canada, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Detroit Pistons. On Tuesday, students at Sargent Park School were paid a visit by the Minnesota Timberwolves Dance and Dunk Team and select students took part in a basketball clinic with Coach Steve Brown. Following the school visit, the show headed over to the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre where a new court was unveiled for the children of the area thanks to the support form Manitoba Lotteries and the NBA Cares program. A dance and dunk show was put on for the residents of the community which saw Premier Greg Selinger, Mayor Sam Katz and NBA Legend Clyde Drexler in attendance to offer their support. The whirlwind events wrapped up later that night where over 75 players and 40 coaches took part in a a clinic put on by Timberwolves coaches Shawn Respert, David Adleman and Steve Brown.
Wednesday morning saw the MTS Centre full of children again with the Air Canada NBA Fit Clinic on court with Coach Brown, Handles the Globetrotter and Crunch the mascot leading the group of 100+ participants through some basketball basics. Capping off the events before the game was the NBA Foot Locker Fantasy Camp with an invited 20 children form the inner-city who were treated to an outstanding NBA experience! The Fantasy Camp included a full Adidas gear package for each participant, a skills camp, a scrimmage game on the court with NBA commentators Leo Rautins and Matt Devlin taking the coaching duties with Handles and 'Clyde the Glide' taking on the referee duties.
