BRANDON, MB – Following the success of the first Holiday Hoops Classic last year, the Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team will be hosting the one-day clinic again this year. The second annual Holiday Hoops Classic will be held December 9, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the new Brandon University Healthy Living Centre. The clinic is open to all students in grades 3 through 12. The event is aimed at teaching local youth the basics of basketball, while helping local youth in need as the holiday season approaches.
“We were amazed and inspired by the support from the community last year,” says head coach Gil Cheung. “It’s a great time for our friends and neighbours in the community, as well as us with the Bobcats to help those in need. For our athletes to take part in such a worthwhile cause is great and we look forward to it all year.”
There is no registration fee associated with the clinic, but those who take part are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy which will be donated to the Christmas Cheer Registry by the Bobcats.
The primary focus of this session is to introduce the fundamentals of the game and to teach proper footwork, shooting mechanics, ball-handling, passing and spacing. The event promises to be fun as well as develop basketball skills in both an individual and team setting. Players will be introduced to basic agility and core training activities.
The clinic will be run by coach Cheung and members of the Bobcats basketball team. All participants will take home great Bobcat prizes, as well as prizes from Smitty’s Family Restaurant, Booster Juice, and Domino’s Pizza.
