What is a builder? Why have you possibly not ever heard of Jim Bulloch, Gerry & Jerry Ilchyna, Art Leach, Elmer Sutton, George Fontaine, or Jim Downey among others? It has been said, “builders give sport vision”. Without these people, much of what we take for granted in the game today would not exist. They are the men and women who worked behind the scenes for decades developing players as coaches, organizing the player and referee clinics, working in backrooms developing tournaments, league schedules, and tours, and working with the media to promote this glorious game. Since its inception in 1983, there have been 61 individuals inducted into our Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as builders. In truth, they are the most honoured of all honoured members. A new display at the Hall's Museum is now dedicated to our builders. Check it out on your next visit.
