CMU Athletics has announced the hiring of Joe Di Curzio as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team. A recognizable name in the Winnipeg basketball community, Di Curzio has a proven record of coaching and administrative success at every level of amateur basketball in the province. Di Curzio began his collegiate coaching career in the late 1970′s when he captured the Manitoba Collegiate Championship for three successive years at Red River College. At Tec Voc High School, where Di Curzio worked as an educator until 2010, he led teams to numerous provincial championship, eventually taking Di Curzio to an assistant coaching position with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen men’s basketball program from 1991-1997.
After serving as a community club coach for several years, the resident of Charleswood formed Winnipeg Internationals women’s basketball team in 2004, capturing provincial women’s club titles in 4 out of 5 years, and guiding eight Internationals players on to successful university basketball opportunities.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to add coach Di Curzio to our staff,” said CMU Director of Athletics, Russell Willms, “He is thoroughly involved in the provincial basketball community, and with a diverse basketball resume, Joe is an individual who has proven to be dedicated to both his sport and to the community.”
