WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SIGN PAIR OF FORWARDS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western women’s basketball team bolstered its presence in the front court with the signing of forwards Brooke Pattyn (Winnipeg) and Ana Lomavatu (Williams Lake, B.C.) Tuesday.

The duo will immediately improve a Spartans team that lacked size last year and will help to give TWU a stronger presence on the glass.

The two join forward Kayla Gordon (Prince George, B.C.) and guard Jenna Bracken (Sherwood Park, Alta.) to form Spartans coach Cheryl Jean-Paul’s 2013 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1 Pattyn, who will graduate this spring from Fort Richmond Collegiate, comes to the Spartans having played for Manitoba’s provincial teams each of the past three years while also competing at the club level with Team Mayhem.

“We are really excited to welcome some much-needed size into the program,” Jean-Paul said. “Brooke brings an inside presence and a nice shooting touch to our team. We’re looking forward to training with her and developing her into a great CIS post. It’s great to finally get a Winnipeg athlete into the fold. This program has had some solid alumni who have come from there in the past and Brooke will definitely be joining that group of Complete Champions.”

Pattyn plans to study Art & Design at TWU.

“I chose TWU because I found it was the best fit for me,” Pattyn said. “I liked the smaller campus and the location is amazing. I’m excited to be a part of the basketball program here and to become a Spartan.”

Pattyn’s high school coach Allison Laferty added: "Brooke is one of the most coachable athletes that I've worked with. She is a tireless worker who leads by example. Her size inside was a tremendous asset for our team this year. She is a low post scorer, but she also has the mobility to play outside. She will be a great addition to the TWU program."
