Congratulations to Winnipeg's John Loewen recently returned from the World Master games in Torino, Italy with a Gold Medal in basketball! Loewen, a high school sport all star in football and basketball at Churchill High School, went on to University of Manitoba where he played with the Bisons for 5 years. John later played with Nicollet Inn Sr. Men's team and then became coach, winning two National titles. Loewen, who is a member of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, played with a group of 9 Canadians, most of them from British Columbia. The team went 4-1 in the five games that they played. John stated," It was a great experience and lots of fun playing with guys that I competed against for so many years. We worked hard, and my stamina is not what it used to be, but it was great to be able to represent Canada and wear that gold medal.". More information on the World Master's Games can be found at...
