With sadness, Basketball Manitoba announces the passing of longtime basketball coach Dennis Alvestad. Dennis coached the Varsity Girls at Dakota Collegiate for many years and built that program into one of the best and most successful in the province. During his coaching career, he led the Lancers to four MHSAA provincial championships and developed some of the top players in Manitoba. In 2001, the 1976, 1977 & 1979, Dakota teams, all provincial champions, were inducted into our Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame along with their beloved coach. After his retirement, Dennis volunteered at many basketball events and stayed a true fan of the game. We have lost one of the truly nice guys in our game. Our sincere condolences go out to the entire Alvestad family.
