47th Wesmen Classic
Regina 83 Dickinson State 79 [Quarter-Final]
Brandon Tull (Regina) 21 points – Player of the Game
Mackenson Odenier (Dickinson State) 21 points
The University of Regina Cougars opened up the University portion of the 47th AnnualWesmen Classic with a close 83-79 victory over theDickinson State University Bluehawks. First year guard Brandon Tull led the Cougars with 21 points and three steals. Jeremy Zver added 15 and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Junior post Mackenson Odenier led Dickinson State with 21 points and nine rebounds. The Cougars got off to a good start in the contest thanks to a 22-13 advantage in the second quarterwhich enabled them to carry a 37-26 lead into the halftime break. The Bluehawks made the game interesting in a wide open offensive displ ay in the second half. Dickinson State narrowed the gap outscoring the Cougars 53-46 in the second half. Dickinson State connected on 56% from the field in the second half but the Cougars were hot as well connecting on 58% from the field. Regina will take on the winner of the Brandon/Ottawa matchup in one semi final Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. Dickinson State will play the loser in the consolation semi final Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Ottawa 78 Brandon 70 [Quarter-Final]
Johnny Berhanemeskel (Ottawa) 17 points – Player of the Game
A.M. Benabdelhak (Brandon) 23 points
The University of Ottawa Gee-Gee’s advanced to the semi finals of the 2013 Coca Cola Wesmen Classic with a 78-70 victory over the Brandon Bobcats. Fourth year guard Johnny Berhanemeskel led the Gee Gee’s with 17 points and was named Player of the Game. Caleb Agada was a force on the boards finishing with a game high nine rebounds. Brandon was led by third year guard A.M.Benabdelhak’s game high 23 points. He also led the Bobcats with seven rebounds. Ottawa went into the halftime break with a slim 35-29 lead but were able to extend their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Bobcats 24-13 to carry a 59-42 lead into the fourth quarter. Brandon made a late charge in the fourth quarter but Ottawa held off the Bobcats to claim the victory. Ottawa will face Regina in one semi final Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. Brandon will face Dickinson State in one semi final Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
Winnipeg 85 Lakeland 30 [Quarter-Final]
Jordan Clennon (Winnipeg) 19 points – Player of the Game
Steven Jones (Lakeland College) 9 points
The host team, University of Winnipeg Wesmen advanced to the semi final round of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic with a convincing 85-30 victory over Lakeland College Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Guard Jordan Clennon led the Wesmen with a game high 19 points. Clennon was named the Player of the Game for hs efforts. Jamr Farley added 16 while Christopher Baxter and Steven Wesley each finished with 14. Tynan Reyes led Winnipeg on the boards with 13. Steven Jones led Lakeland College with nine points and seven rebounds. Winnipeg had control in the opening quarter racing out to a 25-10 lead and outscored the Rustlers 23-0 in the second frame to open up a 48-10 halftime lead. Winnipeg will play their cross town rivals Manitoba Bisons in the semi final round Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
Manitoba 71 Valley City 62 [Quarter-Final]
Dan Penner (Manitoba) 18 points – Player of the Game
Mac Kroeplin, Russell Robinson (Valley City) 13 points
The University of Manitoba Bisons defeated the Valley City State University Vikings 71-62 in the quarter-finals of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic Saturday night. The Bisons will move onto the semi final round against the tournament host Winnipeg Wesmen. Dan Penner led the way for Manitoba with 18 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Andre Arruda added 14. Brett Jewell led the team in rebounds with seven. Mac Kroeplin and Russell Robinson each scored 13 points for the Vikings. Manitoba led at the halftime break 34-26 and extended their lead to double digits after three quarters to 50-39. The Vikings made the game interesting late in the fourth quarter cutting the Bisons lead to single digits only to have Manitoba fight off the challenge. Manitoba will face Winnipeg Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. Valley City will face Lakeland College in one consolation semi final Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Dickinson State University Bluehawks 61-53 in the first of two exhibition games Saturday morning at the 47th Annual Wesmen Classic. First year post Skylar Boulanger led Winnipeg with 12 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Thorkelsson was next with 10 points. Dickinson State was led by TaRicka Linzy’s 17 points. Jess Bygate added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Winnipeg jumped out to a 22-16 lead after the
opening quarter and went into the halftime break leading 31-26. The Wesmen held off the Bluehawks in the second half outscoring the visitors 30-28 to claim the 61-53 victory. The two teams will wrap up their exhibition series on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

John Taylor 83 U of W Collegiate 58 [Consolation Semi-Final]
Zachary Giesbrecht (John Taylor) 24 points – Player of the Game
Tejpaul Badwain (UW Collegiate) 25 points
The John Taylor Pipers defeated the UW Collegiate Wesmen 83-58 in the first consolation semi- final of the High School Boy’s Wesmen Classic. Zachary Giesbrecht led the Pipers with 24 points, 16 coming in the opening half. Tejpaul Badwain led the Wesmen with a game high 25 points. John Taylor will face the winner of the Sturgeon Heights/Maples game in the consolation final taking place on Monday morning at 8:00 a.m.
MBCI 83 Oak Park 77 [Semi-Final]
Torrez McKoy (MBCI) 28 points – Player of the Game
Colson Reimer (Oak Park) 24 points
The trio of Torrez McKoy, Gurinder Gill and Derek McKnight combined for 65 points to lead the MBCI Hawks to a 83-77 victory over the Oak Park Raiders in the semi finals at the Wesmen High School Classic. McKoy , the Player of the Game poured in a game high 28 points. Gill added 19 while McKnight finish ed with 18. Colson Reimer led the Raiders with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The Hawks carried the momentum early on building a 42-36 lead at the Halftime break. The teams played an even second half but the Hawks were able to holds onto their lead. MBCI advances to Monday’s Championship Final against the winner of Sunday’s Kelvin/Garden City semi final. Oak Park will play in the third place game on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.
