Bison Sports has announced the appointment of Michele Hynes as the Head Coach of the Bison women's basketball program. Hynes started her coaching career with the Junior Bisons in 2005 and Big Country Basketball (2010-12). She served as a mentor Coach with Skownan First Nations Junior Bisons (2006-2010) and was the rural team coordinator and coach with JRB Basketball (2009). Hynes also served as the Apprentice Coach U17 Manitoba Provincial Team program for the past two summers earning the Bronze medal at the 2013 Canada Summer Games. Coach Hynes currently is an Assistant Coach with Team Canada's Paralympic Basketball Team and serves as the performance analyst with Team Canada's Development Team.
Hynes, 26, completed her five year university playing career with the Manitoba Bisons in 2010. Hynes was a leader on and off the court as she was as a team captain for three consecutive years. Hynes was selected as the 2009-10 CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) Sylvia Sweeney Award winner – presented to a player who recipient exhibits outstanding achievement in three areas: basketball, academics and community involvement. Following her playing days as a Bison Hynes spent a year with the ZKK Partizan Basketball Club in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Millgrove, ON native has earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the U of Manitoba and is currently enrolled in Faculty of Engineering. She was named a CIS Academic All-Canadian in 2006-07, an honour given to student athletes who achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5. Hynes was awarded the 2009 Jim Bulloch Coaching, the 2011-12 Grey Cup Legacy award and was the recipient of a 2012 Women to Watch grant.
