BRANDON - The Brandon University men’s basketball team has announbed the addition of Montreal product Samy Stanson Desir to the program. Desir spent the 2013-14 season playing for Collège Édouard-Montpetit in Montreal where he was awarded the “l’élève-athlète masculin de niveau secondaire ayant démontré une persévérance académique et sportive” award, which is given to a male student athlete who demonstrates athletic and academic excellence and perseverance throughout the season
The 6-foot-3 shooting guard was named athlete of the year in his final year of high school at Montreal’s École Jeanne-Mance. Desir’s decision came after hearing good things about the program from fellow Bobcat Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak and is excited to begin his tenure as at BU this fall.
Playing basketball at the CIS level has long been a goal for Desir and he is happy to be joining the Brandon squad.
“Samy has some experience playing at a post-secondary level and I know he’ll continue to build on that experience throughout his time here at BU.”

“I’ve known for a long time that I want to play at the CIS level and Brandon has a good program that will allow me to develop my skills in a new setting.”Coach Gil Cheung has high expectations for Desir in the upcoming season, “We are looking forward to having Samy join our program next season. His ability to create in the open floor will be an asset for us offensively. He is an aggressive, physical guard who will provide us with more offensive opportunities.”
