Service Set for Jan 26 at CanadInns Polo Park: Basketball Manitoba is deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of Shawn Coates of Winnipeg at the age of 52 on January 9. Shawn was a very active member of the Manitoba sport community involved in many different sports including basketball. Shawn will probably be remembered the most by the basketball community as the voice of most of the Shaw TV productions of the high school provincial championships through the 1990's and 2000's. He also held a communications post with the old International Basketball Association (Winnipeg Cyclone pro team). An avid sports photographer, Shawn was regularly seen on the sidelines capturing the action at university and high school games. He recently joined the Sport Manitoba family as the Executive Director of Football Manitoba.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Coates family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
