The CMU Men's Basketball team has announced the commitment of Garden City Collegiate's Jacob Penner for the 2015-16 season. The 6'8 big man is a prolific rebounder and defender and will look to make an immediate impact on the MCAC.

"Jacob has the ability to dominate defensively," said CMU head coach Billy Isaac, "He is strong, quick and tenacious."

Penner was part of a historic provincial basketball story last summer when as a member of the Team Manitoba 17U boys, he helped our province to their first National Basketball Championship, defeating perennial powerhouse Team Ontario 79-61 in the the Gold Medal Final. Team Manitoba went on to receive a nomination for "Team of the Year" by the MSSA (Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association) and as the Calm Air "Junior Team of the Year".

"Offensively, Jacob has a nice soft touch around the basket which is complimented by great foot work," added Isaac.

Penner scored and rebounded regularly in double digits during his grade 12 season. His solid all-around game helped Garden City to the MHSAA 'AAAA' Final Four last weekend, losing to eventual champions Oak Park Raiders in the semifinals. The Gophers KPAC zone finalists and earned berths in the finals of the 2014 Wesmen Classic, the St. Paul's Tournament and Regina's Luther Invitational Tournament.
