49th Annual Wesmen Classic Set for December 27-30

The University of Winnipeg has announced details on the 49th Annual Wesmen Classic, a holiday tradition at the University of Winnipeg's Duckworth Centre.  The 49th Annual Wesmen Classic begins with the addidas Junior Varsity Boys Classic taking place on Friday and Saturday (December 11 and 12) and concludes with the Metro News  High School Boys Classic and the Coca Cola University Men's Classic from Sunday, December 27 to Wednesday, December 30.

Tournament passes are available for the low price of $25.00. Passes are available for purchease at the Duckworth Customer Service Centre December 22 and 23. Passes will also be available for purchase on the opening day of the Classic on Sunday, December 27 (beginning at 9:00 a.m.) WESMEN CLASSIC PROGRAM AND MEDIA GUIDE COVER - This year's Classic Program and Media Guide cover (Shown Above) features 23 images from past Golden Boy and Wesmen Classic Championships. The cover shows the rich history and prestige of the Classic and makes it one of the best basketball tournaments in Canada.  Next year the Wesmen Classic will be celebrating it's 50th Anniversary. Many special events are already in the planning stages. If any individual has any items, news clippings etc from past Classics please contact Sheldon Appelle (Sports Information Coordinator) at (204) 786-9823 or by email - s.appelle@uwinnipeg.ca The Coca-Cola University Men's Classic The Coca Cola University Men's Classic consists of the host team Winnipeg Wesmen and teams from Manitoba, Brandon, Lethbridge, MacEwan, Acadia, Lakehead and NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The Coca Cola University draw begins play on Monday, December 28th and wraps up with the "Championship Final" on Wednesday, December 30th at 8:00 p.m. The Metro News High School Boys Classic The Metro News High School Classic draw will once again feature eight of the top varsity boy's teams. The defending Wesmen Classic and Provincial Champions Oak Park Raiders will be joined by Vincent Massey, Grant Park, John Taylor, Fort Richmond, Garden City, Kildonan East and St. Ignatius (Thunder Bay, ON). The Metro News High School draw begins on Sunday, December 27th and concludes with the Championship Final on Wednesday, December 30th at 6:00 p.m. Garden City - Sisler Battle For JV Championship The adidas Junior Varsity Boys Final will take place on Sunday, December 27th at 7:30 p.m. The game will feature the Garden City Fighting Gophers taking on the Sisler Spartans. Garden City reached the Championship Final with a 82-63 semi final victory over the John Taylor Pipers. The Spartans reached the  final with a 56-41 victory over the Dakota Lancers in their semi final match up.

Ticket Information:
Tournament passes are on sale  Online and  at the Duckworth Customer Service Centre (Main Level, Duckworth Centre) until 6:00 pm on December 23rd. The University of Winnipeg will re-open for the Classic at 9:00 am on December 27th. Tickets are available for purchase during the tournament.

Tournament passes are $25.00, and are valid for all games.  Day passes are available on game days only.  Prices for day passes are as follows:

• Dec. 27    $5.00 (5 games - 4 high school, 1 junior varsity final)
• Dec. 28    $10.00 (6 games - 4 university, 2 high school)
• Dec. 29    $10.00 (6 games - 4 university, 2 high school,)
• Dec. 30    $12.00 (7 games - 4 university, 3 high school)
