University Men's Game Results

49th Wesmen Classic


Lakehead 72 Brandon 64 [Quarter-Final]

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves opened up the University portion of the 49th Annual Wesmen Classic with a 72-64 victory over the Brandon University Bobcats. First year guard Kache Kopec led the Thunderwolves with 17 points, including five-three pointers. Third year guard Henry Tan and first year guard Brandon Persad each added 15. Nick Burke hauled in a team high 11 rebounds. Brandon was led by Earl Thompson Jr's double-double 23 points and 13 rebounds. Henry Tan (Lakehead) was named the Player of the Game.Brandon went into the halftime break leading 29-27 only to see the Thunderwolves turn it up in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats by a 45-35 margin. Lakehead will take on Acadia in one semi final Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. Brandon will take on MacEwan in one consolation semi final Tuesday afternoon beginning at 12:00 p.m.


Acadia 84 MacEwan 82 [Quarter-Final]

Fourth year forward Kyle Arsenault drained the game winning three-pointer as time expired to give the Acadia Axemen a thrilling 84-82 victory over the MacEwan Griffins in the quarter-finals of the 2015 Coca Cola Wesmen Classic. Arsenault who was named Player of the Game for his performance had a game high 27 points, including six-three pointers. Erik Nissen added 17 points and eight rebounds. Shaquille Smith had 15 points for the Axemen. MacEwan had five players in double-digits led by Keith Gerdes's 18 points to go along with nine rebounds. Denzel James added 14 while Chris Mooney added 13. Acadia relied on the three-pointer in the contest draining 10 in the contest. MacEwan went into the halftime break with a 42-34 lead but were unable to hold the lead as the Axemen exploded for 50 points in the second half.


Winnipeg 74 NAIT 63 [Quarter-Final]

The host team, the University of Winnipeg Wesmen advanced to the semi final round of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic with a hard fought 74-63 victory over the NAIT Ooks Sunday evening at the Duckworth Centre. Fourth year guard Jamar Farley led the Wesmen with 15 points and was named the Player of the Game. William Sesay added 13 points and nine rebounds. Nathaniel Johnson added 11. Adrian Curtis led NAIT with 14 points. Sebastian Cava finished with 11. The game started out close as Winnipeg led 17-13 after the opening quarter. Winnipeg shook off the early rust in the second quarter, outscoring NAIT 24-13 
to take a 41-26 lead into the halftime break. NAIT made the game close in the third quarter scoring eight unanswered points to cut the Wesmen lead to 41-34. Winnipeg hung on to lead 52-46 after three quarters and outscored the Ooks 22-17 in the fourth to seal the victory.


Manitoba 87 Lethbridge 77 [Quarter-Final]

The University of Manitoba Bisons defeated the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 87-77 in the quarter-finals of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic Monday evening. The Bisons will move onto the semi final round against the tournament host Winnipeg Wesmen. Justus Alleyn led Manitoba with a game high 22 points. Keith Omoerah followed with 21 points. Wyatt Anders led Manitoba on the boards with 15 rebounds. Rob Olsen led Lethbridge with 19 points. Brandon Brine finished with 15. Manitoba had control of the game in the opening20 minutes leading 46-33 at halftime. The Pronghorns got back in the game in the third quarter, outscoring Manitoba 22-17 to cut the Manitoba lead to single digits at 63-55 after three quarters. Manitoba held off a late fourth quarter charge to seal the victory in the closing minutes. Justus Alleyn was selected as the Player of the Game for his efforts. The Winnipeg vs Manitoba semi-final will take place Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. Lethbridge will face NAIT in one consolation semi final Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

Vincent Massey 72  Grant Park 59 [Consolation Semi-Final]

The Vincent Massey Trojans defeated the Grant Park Pirates 72-59 in the first consolation semi-final of the Metro News High School Boy's Classic. Andreas Dueck led the Trojans with 20 points and was named Player of the Game. Dez Tade led the Pirates with 18 points. Vincent Massey will face the winner of the Fort Richmond-St. Ignatius game in the consolation final Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m.


John Taylor 91 Oak Park 64 [Semi-Final]

The John Taylor Pipers punched their ticket to the Wesmen Classic High School final by posting a 91-64 semi-final victory over the Oak Park Raiders. Four Pipers starters figured in double digits led by Riki Zimbakov's game high 22 points. James Wagner added 19, Player of the Game recipient Zack Giesbrecht had 16 and Louis Makot finished with 11. Jerome Wuidar led the Raiders with 18 points. Shakur Harris was next with 13. The Pipers had 

control of the match at the halftime break leading 44-25 and never looked back in the second half. John Taylor will take on the winner of the Garden City-Kildonan East semi final in the High School Championship Final scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
