Vanessa Millions put pen to paper before the holidays, signing a Letter of Intent to join the CMU Women's Basketball program for the 2016-17 season.
The 6'2 Carman Collegiate center is just about to get her final high school season started for the Cougars and is coming off a spectacular Grade 11 year that saw her average over 24 points and 13 rebounds a game, helping her team win the 2015 Zone 4 Championships and advancing to the MHSAA 'AA' Girl's Provincials.
"Vanessa will be a great additional for us," said head coach Joe Di Curzio, "her athleticism and versatility will allow her to compete immediately; offensively and defensively. She has the ability to score and the ability to see the floor extremely well from the post position."
An accomplished and experienced athlete, Millions was amongst the standout u-17 Manitoba girls team who represented the province, claiming a silver medal last summer at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Edmonton.
"What we are most excited about is Vanessa's commitment to defense and her tenacious ability to rebound," added Di Curzio, "I am also thrilled to have another excellent well-rounded student joining our program."
Milliions joins current third-year guard Cassie Wiebe who is also a graduate of Carman Collegiate.
Women's Basketball is off to Thief River Falls this weekend for holiday tournament play. On Saturday, the Blazers will take on the Leech Lake Lakers and then finish on Sunday against the hosts; Northland Pioneers before making their way back to Winnipeg. The next home action for CMU is Friday, January 8th when they tip off against the University of St-Boniface.
