Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that Manitoba coaches Michele Hynes and Kirby Schepp will be representing Canada this coming summer with the U17 female and U18 male teams respectively. Hynes and Schepp are currently both coaching the women's and men's teams at the University of Manitoba and are heavily involved with Manitoba's Provincial Team as well.
Both have been at the National Team ID camps over the past week in Toronto and will train and travel with the Canadian teams throughout the summer. Michele will join fellow Manitoban Niyah Becker to Spain for the FIBA U17 World Championships in the coming weeks and Kirby will be in Chile for the FIBA Americas World Qualifiers.
Michele commented, "I am grateful for the opportunity to be apart of Canada Basketball for another summer. Getting to experience a world championship will be a great learning opportunity for staff & athletes. It will also be exciting to see the core group of athletes build on their success from last summer, against some of the best basketball countries in the world!"
Kirby commented, "It is a great honour to once again represent my country with the national team program. These are certainly exciting times as Canada continues to rise as a world power in the sport of basketball. I have been very fortunate to see much of that rise up close and hope that we can continue to build on past successes this summer."
