Metro News High School Boys Classic
Sisler 91 Kelvin 81 [Quarter-Final]
The duo of Shawn Maranan and Andrei Sansano combined for 46 points to lead the Sisler Spartans to a 91-81 victory over the Kelvin Clippers in the opening game of the Metro News High School Boy's Classic. Maranan a grade 11 guard notched a team high 25 points while Sansano a grade 12 guard scored 21 points, including four-three pointers. Grade 12 forward Deng Guluak scored a game high 27 points for the Clippers. Sisler went into the halftime break with a 46-36 advantage. Maranan for his efforts was named the Player of the Game.
Sisler will face the winner of the Fort Richmond-John Taylor matchup in one semi final scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
John Taylor 73 Fort Richmond 66 [Quarter-Final]
Grade 12 guard Riki Zimbakov scored a game high 40 points to lead the defending Provincial and Wesmen Classic Champions, John Taylor Pipers to a 73-66 victory opver the Fort Richmond Centurions in quarter-final action at the Metro News High School Boy's Classic. The 6'4" Zimbakov was solid on the boards as well finishing with 11 rebounds to complete the double-double. Zimbakov was named the Player of the Game after his performance. Kniel Sullera led the Centurions with 15 points. The Pipers went into the halftime break with a 10 point lead, 39-29. The Centurions made a charge in the fourth quarter outscoring the Pipers 20-13 and were only behind by four points with two minutes remaining in the frame. The Pipers were able to fend off the charge and completed the 73-66 victory.
John Taylor will face the Sisler Spartans in semifinal action, Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Fort Richmond will face Kelvin the consolation semi final Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Dakota 82 Vincent Massey 59 [Quarter-Final]
The Dakota Lancers defated the Vincent Massey Trojans 82-59 in quarter-final action at the Metro News High School Boy's Classic. Three Lancers scored in double digits led by Redeemed Kabashiki's game high 18 points. Kelvin Liang was next with 16. Jagamn Brar followed with 14. Liang was named the Player of the Game. Aaron Sackey led the Trojans with 12 points. Zack Feakes and Kyler Filewich each scored 11. The Lancers had control of the game in the opening half leading 40-19 at the halftime break, including outscoring the Trojans 20-7 in the second quarter.
The Lancers will face the winner of the Garden City-Sturgeon Heights matchup in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Garden City 83 Sturgeon Heights 55 [Quarter-Final]
The Garden City Fighting Gophers gained a spot in the semifinals of the Metro Times High School Boy's Classic after defeating the Sturgeon Heights Huskies 83-55 in quarter final action. Miguel Guevarra led Garden City with a game high 20 points. Cole Penner was next with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tyreece Viner-Cox also had a double-double 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tyson Jensen led the Huskies with 15 points while Logan Fedak added 10. The Fighting Gophers had control of the contest early on leading 25-13 after the opening quarter and outscored the Huskies 18-11 in the second quarter to take a 43-24 lead into the
halftime break. Garden City put up 25 points in the third quarter while holding the Huskies to 13 to lead 68-37 after three quarters.
Garden City will face Dakota in semifinal action on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
