Winnipeg's Niyah Becker has announced her commitment to attend the University of Utah women's basketball program for the 2018-19 season. The University of Utah is a member of the NCAA PAC-12 Conference, which is ranked the number one RPI conference in Division 1 basketball and sent 5 teams to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament this year. Niyah is coming off a silver medal finish with the Vincent Massey Collegiate Trojans last month at the AAAA Girls Provincial Championships where she was named to the tournament All-Star team.
Niyah is a member of the Manitoba Provincial Team Program for the past 3 years and 4 years in the Centre for Performance Program. Her early days in basketball started in the WMBA at Lindenwoods Community Centre and at Henry G Izatt Middle School. She has been a regular invite to the last number of years with the Canadian National Team program and in the summer of 2016, she suited up for Team Canada as a member of the Cadet National Team that brought home a 5th place finish at the World Championships in Spain. In January 2016, she was one of a few Canadians invited to the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Camp hosted in conjunction with the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto.
Winnipeg's Emily Potter and Glenlawn Collegiate graduate is entering her final year with the Utah Utes for the 2017-18 season and has been with the program since 2013.
