UPDATED: R.D. Parker Collegiate in Thompson , Manitoba has announced they will be hosting a special 24 hour 3x3 basketball tournament to raise funds and awareness on the issue of teen suicides and mental health. In the past year, the community has suffered multiple losses due to suicide. The high school and community is planning to host an event June 2-3, 2017 to help raise awareness for suicide as it has affected the entire community. They have planned is a 24 hour event in which the entire community can participate in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament called “Ball for Life”.
Students of Stonewall Hoops for Hope raised $150 in a 50/50 draw towards the Ball for Life Campaign |
The goal is to not only to raise awareness about suicide, but to also raise enough money to present half our proceeds to Hope North in Thompson, Manitoba which is a mental health agency and the other half to our own school to send students on mental health workshops. RDPC has had a lot of success with basketball the past couple of years and most recently this year with our JV Girls winning the AAA Provincial title and Senior Boys taking the consolation provincial title, therefore a basketball tournament seemed to be the appropriate choice to raise positive awareness in our community. Donations and other support can be sent to Hope North in the name of this event at http://www.hopenorth.ca/donate.html
