Athletes in Action, in partnership with Basketball Manitoba and Volleyball Manitoba are in in Shamattawa, Manitoba for a special week long sports camp from May 1-7. The camp is being led by AIA basketball players Jacob Penner (Canadian Mennonite University basketball), Courtney Engel (Providence College basketball) and Adrian Dyck (U of W volleyball). The camp will feature a full week for the children of the community working with the camp leaders in the gym with the focus on staying active while learning new basketball and volleyball skills.
The community has been hit hard in the last few years with rising youth suicides and fires that have left a mark on the community spirit. The camps aim is to provide a positive experience for the area children to keep their focus on their education and in maintaining a healthy active lifestyle.
The clinic has come together through the initiatives and the local Kisemattawa Northern Lights Sports Club.
