BISON MEN'S BASKETBALL
The full 2017-18 Canada West conference men's basketball regular season schedule has been released and the Manitoba Bisons commence the season on the road at Saskatchewan on October 27 and the home opener is against the Regina Cougars on Friday, November 3 at 8 p.m. CT at Investors Group Athletic Centre – IGAC (U of Manitoba Fort Garry campus).
Manitoba plays three home weekend series in the first half with the annual Duckworth Challenge game hosted by the Bisons at IGAC in mid-January during 20 game conference regular season.
The schedule is subject to small changes and the Bisons have an even split of home and away games in the first half of the 2017-18 conference season as they host Regina (Nov. 3-4), MacEwan (Nov. 10-11) and Brandon (Nov. 24-25). The remainder of the first half of the season will have the Herd at Saskatchewan (Oct. 27-28), at Mount Royal (Nov. 17-18) and at UBC Okanagan (Dec. 1-2).
In the second half starting in January, the annual Duckworth Challenge game (27th edition) against Winnipeg Wesmen will be hosted by Manitoba on Friday, January 19 at 8 p.m. CT. The rest of the second half has Manitoba at IGAC versus Lethbridge (Jan. 5-6) and Victoria (Jan. 13-14) plus away at Winnipeg (Jan. 20) and Fraser Valley (Feb. 2-3).
The conference playoffs begin with Canada West Play In single elimination game (Feb. 9 or 10); Quarter Finals (best-of-three series) from February 15-18 then conference semi-finals (best-of-three) on Feb. 22-25 with Canada West Final (one game) on either Mar. 2-3. The 2018 U SPORTS Men's Basketball National Championship will be held at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax from March 8-11.
All regular season home games for Manitoba will be played at Investors Group Athletic Centre at the U of Manitoba Fort Garry campus. The full 2017 men's basketball schedule is available on the Bison website (gobisons.ca).
Bison Notes: In 2016-17, Manitoba finished with a 12-8 record and fifth in the RPI standing and defeated Regina in Play In series by 2-0 margin, then beat UBC in Quarter-Final series by 2-0 and finished second in conference after beating Calgary in semifinal. The Bisons advanced to their first nationals since the 1985-86 season.

Bison Notes: In 2016-17, Manitoba finished with a 4-16 record and 13th in the RPI standing and just out of the Top 12 that qualified for the playoffs despite numerous injuries throughout the season. The Herd seeks to make the post-season for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.
