The Brandon University Men's basketball team is continuing their Christmas tradition by hosting their 8th annual Holiday Hoops Classic.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17 at the Healthy Living Centre. It is aimed at teaching youth in the Westman area the fundamentals of basketball, while helping advanced players develop their game.
There is no cost for youth to take part, but the Bobcats are encouraging participants to bring a new, unwrapped toy in support of the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry.
"This is my favourite activity each year," said BU men's coach and Campus Recreation Director Gil Cheung. "The Holiday Hoops Classic introduces the game of basketball to kids in the Westman area and will hopefully spark a love for physical activity at the same time. This is a great opportunity for us to give back during the holiday season while promoting basketball and fitness."
The Holiday Hoops Classic runs from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at the HLC and is aimed towards boys and girls in grades 2-8.
Cash and gift card donations are also accepted with the proceeds going to charity.
