Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that Basketball Immersion founder Chris Oliver has been confirmed as the headliner for the October 21-22, 2022 Basketball Manitoba Super Coaches Clinic in Winnipeg. This marks the second time Chris will join the SCC, but the first in person!
Joining Chris will be local USPORT coaches Kirby Schepp and Michele Sung (Manitoba Bisons) and Gil Cheung (Brandon Bobcats), and Jon Giesbrecht (Play Free Basketball), who will present over the 2-day clinic as well. The early Bird registration cost is $120 for one day or $145 to come to both days (before October 1). The regular fee after September 30 to register is $130 for one day or $155 to come to both days (deadline October 19 at 4:30 pm Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 12 noon). All WMBA / Peg City Youth coaches can register at no cost as the WMBA is covering all costs for its coaches to attend.
Please Note: The University of Manitoba has a mask requirement in place for all people inside any building on campus. all attendees to the SCC will be required to wear a mask. Masks may be removed when eating and are not required to be worn by demonstrators when active on the court or while presenting.
Here are a few important items that you need to be aware of…
1. DATE(S). October 21 and/or 22, 2022 (depending on the clinic package you signed up for)
2. TIMES. The Coach Check-In will occur between 8:00 – 8:45 am. Due to a large number of clinic attendance, please show up earlier than later during the Coach Check-In. The clinic will begin at 9:00 am sharp each day and wrap up by 3:30 pm.
3. LOCATION. All sessions will be held in the gym on Centre Court at the University of Manitoba Investors Group Athletic Centre. The West Court bleachers will be out for seating. On-court demonstrators will be present throughout the weekend, assisting the clinic presenters with their content. (U of M MAP)
4. PARKING. As with any campus event, parking is always a challenge. Please give yourself some extra time in the morning! Please refer to the attached University of Manitoba Parking Map for where you can park. Look for the green Parking logo for your best options. PARKING MAP ATTACHED
Parking Notes:
- Parking at the University of Manitoba on Friday will be at a premium as classes are in, and it's a regular school day on campus and a regular workday on campus.
- Parking on Saturday will be far easier to find. However, you're still better off in an all-day lot or parkade.
- You should arrive on campus before 8:15 AM to increase your chances of finding a spot.
- Parking costs are $10-15 a day per vehicle (not included in the clinic fees).
- It is strongly suggested you carpool with other coaches attending the clinic to increase the chances of finding a spot or taking another mode of transportation, such as Winnipeg Transit or getting dropped off at the IGAC.
- Basketball Manitoba or Bison Sports will assume no responsibility for any parking issues or violations incurred at the clinic.
5. PAYMENTS. School or non-Peg City club team-based coaches had the option to pay online or request a school/club invoice. We would appreciate as many of these payments being settled before the clinic as possible. However, we understand it can take some time to generate a cheque from the school/club. These can be paid during the Coach Check-In. Receipts will also be issued upon request in person. Cash, cheque (payable to Basketball Manitoba), Interac, MasterCard and Visa will be accepted on-site. If you paid online, you should have already received an electronic receipt. All WMBA Community Club / Peg City Club Coaches fees have been covered directly by the WMBA. 6. BREAKFAST & LUNCH. Light breakfast snacks will be available each morning (no coffee this year). Lunch will be provided daily to clinic attendees in the 12:00 – 12:45 range in the third-floor area at IGAC.
7. COACH PACKAGE. Coach packages will be issued during the Coach Check-In. They will include an accreditation wristband (for access to the clinic and lunch), pen, writing materials, door prize ticket(s), Bison and Wesmen Season passes, a Wall mount Fox40 Dry-Erase Coaches Board, a 125+ page coaches manual. We ask that you wear the accreditation wristband during the clinic, as others are using the building on the weekend.
8. CLINIC VIDEO. As a bonus to all clinic attendees, the entire weekend will be videotaped and shared online in the weeks following the clinic. The videos will be made available exclusively to only those at the clinic until January then made public afterwards. A specific link to the online videos will be shared with you by email once the clips are ready in the coming weeks.
9. DOOR PRIZES. Each coach in attendance will receive 1-2 door prize tickets at the Check-In for each day they attend. Prize Draws will be made throughout the weekend, with the grand prize of the trip to Las Vegas being made after the last presentation on Friday and the Team Prize Pack draw being made following the last presentation on Saturday. With all door prizes, including the Las Vegas trip and Team Prize Pack, you must be in attendance to win them.
10. CLINIC STORE. Basketball Manitoba will have a limited number of items for sale on-site. These items include 25-Pack FIBA Scoresheets, Fox40 Dry-Erase Coaches Boards, Fox40 Whistles, and a variety of Basketball Manitoba clothing. Cash, Interac, MasterCard and Visa will be accepted. Remember that stock is limited on all items!
11. WEEKEND UPGRADE PASS. ‘Friday only’ coaches still have the option to upgrade their clinic pass to include the Saturday sessions if they would like! We only have 25 of these upgrade passes available. This can be arranged for at the Coach Check-In or anytime Friday at the Clinic Store. Remember, quantities on the upgrade are limited!
12. UNIVERSITY GAMES. A part of your clinic package will include a Bison and Wesmen season pass ($50 value each) that can be used on Friday and Saturday nights. Times for the games are at 6:00 and 8:00 pm at the Duckworth Centre. Full schedules are below or at http://www.wesmen.ca and http://www.gobisons.ca.
13. BRING A BALL FOR THE BIN. Help us help get more people involved in basketball! We will have one of the basketball and basketball shoe recycling bins at the registration table all weekend. Bring us your used equipment that may still have some bounce in them, and we will get them to those in need!
