Coaching athletes from ages 5 to 21, Charles received several awards, including the North Central Region Coach of the Year with Providence University College, the WMBA Bruce Russell Memorial Coach of the Year and the Basketball Manitoba Jr. High Girls Coach of the Year award. He was a head coach for the North American Indigenous Games, head coach at Arthur A. Leach for eight years, and coach for Tec Voc High School. He also coached his daughter’s Grade 8 Arthur A. Leach team to a Jr. High Provincial Championship.
Charles competed for Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute as a player, becoming an ‘AAAA’ Provincial Champion. Charles played post-secondary basketball at Providence University College and toured India and the Philippines with the Athletes in Action USA Basketball Team.
Charles values the multi-sport athlete and competed in tackle football as a Winnipeg Hawkeye and a Provincial Team Handball player. For over seven years, Charles volunteered to coach youth tackle football and flag football. He currently works at Tec Voc High School.
