After 13 years with the Manitoba colleges Athletic conference, Bill Wedlake (MBHOF Class of '05) is retiring and stepping down as its executive director.

Under Wedlake’s leadership, the MCAC added new member schools, new programs and most recently the league was unanimously given full acceptance into the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association.

“One of the main reasons why the MCAC hired Bill was to help our conference get to a point where we could one day apply and hopefully be accepted as a member conference in the CCAA,” said Scott Masterson, MCAC president. “It has been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs but the MCAC is incredibly grateful for the wealth of knowledge and experience that Bill has brought to our conference.”

The MCAC has seen growth in its championship weekends and within each sport throughout Wedlake’s time with the league. Brandon University became a league member, Assiniboine Community College and Red River College added soccer programs, the Université de Saint-Boniface added basketball teams and a women’s soccer program, Providence University College returned to full MCAC involvement under his leadership.
