Welcome to the 2021-2022 season, and most importantly, WELCOME BACK! It’s been an incredibly long eighteen months since we’ve had basketball and now, as things start to look promising for a return, we hope that you are as excited as we are to finally get back on the court.
We know that there will be many questions and concerns, some reluctance and even apprehension about returning and that’s absolutely OK. While we certainly don’t have all of the answers now, what we can promise you is that you’ll have the support of the MABO Executive to ensure you feel comfortable, safe, and ready when the time comes to return to officiating.
Registration this year begins now and is open all month long with an early-bird registration fee of $120. While traditionally fees have increased October 1st, to also understand that some of you may have a hesitancy to register too far in advance, that’s why MABO is pleased to maintain the early bird registration fee during the month of October as well. It’s the least we can do to show that we care. Starting November 1, 2021, fees will increase to $130.
This fall, there will be a number of MABO Clinics planned throughout the province including dates in Brandon, Portage, Steinbach and two in Winnipeg. Led by the MABO Director of Clinics, Larry Hayes, the Clinic Planning Committee has worked tirelessly to come up with a clinic structure that is both informative and engaging, plus includes some fundamentals and reminders that may have been forgotten during the extended time away. A big thank you to everyone that participated in our survey monkey and provided feedback on what they would like to see in this year’s clinics; your insight was incredibly valuable.
Recently, the Province of Manitoba has implemented requirements surrounding vaccination status as they pertain to indoor sporting and recreation facilities; meaning in order to enter, an ADULT (age 18+) must be able to provide proof of your full vaccination status. This too will be the case in many, if not all private venues and schools as school divisions implement their own policies and requirements for entry. Details on this can be found on the Basketball Manitoba website.
While uncertainty has been the name of the game for the past year and a half, we’re encouraged and optimistic that we can return to the game that we love. If you have any questions or concerns ahead of time, please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on the MABO Executive. We’re looking forward to seeing you very soon!
