Hildebrandt, a top-ranked local prospect, will join Bisons men's basketball in the 2022-23 season.
After a playoff appearance in 2021-22, Bisons men's basketball are turning the page to next fall, announcing the recruitment of homegrown talent Simon Hildebrandt for the 2022-23 season.
Hildebrandt, 19, is a 6'9", 225-pound forward who played high school ball at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate before a prep career that included Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) experience with Royal Crown Academic School in Toronto and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) ball with UPLAY Canada. In his grade 11 year, Hildebrandt was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in Manitoba by the Winnipeg Sun before leaving to play prep.
The return to Manitoba to play at the U SPORTS level was motivated by an up-and-coming Bisons roster.
"I am extremely excited to stay home with the Bisons and be a part of a great group of guys going forward," says Hildebrandt.
"I think this group has a lot of potential and we can really make a run in the next five years. I want to especially thank my parents and all of my past coaches for helping me become the player that I am today."
"Simon is a 'blue chip' recruit that can be a cornerstone piece of our program for years to come," added Bisons men's basketball head coach Kirby Schepp.
"We feel he is one the top forward prospects in the entire country with his combination of size and skill. He adds to the recent tradition of recruiting top-end athletes to our program that are also outstanding in the classroom."
In high school, Hildebrandt had a 90 percent average across courses and will be pursuing a degree in the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba.
