Today on the Basketball Manitoba Podcast, we have Burke Toews.
Burke is a professional basketball coach in Japan, where here has been living for 30 years. He played professionally in Canada with the Winnipeg Thunder, in Germany, and in Japan.
He played for the five years with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, where he was named a Great Plains (GPAC) First Team All-Star two times and an All-Canadian Honorable mention.
As a coach in Japan, he coached Middle School and High School basketball for seven years, winning four league championships. As a professional coach, He’s won a B-League 2nd Division Championship and been to the 1st Division finals three times.
He has had 11 players play on the Japanese National Team, 4 of which won the Silver medal at the 2020 Olympics. One of his players has moved on to the WMBA (Washington Mystics). He was named two-time Coach of the Year.
